Hi, I’m Kiren Kaur-Nienhuis

I’m a NIP registered psychologist (253341), pedagogue-in-training, and parent. I’ve spent much of my professional life working with people, families, and organisations, and I’ve always been interested in what helps people feel understood, supported, and able to move forward.

Why Mindfulparents?

Parenting is one of those areas where knowing what to do and actually doing it can be two very different things.

There are the everyday questions, the challenging behaviour, the big emotions, the boundaries, the guilt — and sometimes simply the feeling that you’re not sure what to try next.

I created Mindfulparents as a space where parents can talk things through without judgement and get practical support that fits their family and everyday life.

My approach

My approach is practical, thoughtful, and non-judgmental. I draw on psychological knowledge, my training in pedagogy, and my own experience as a parent.

I don’t believe there is one perfect way to parent. Every child and every family is different. My aim is to help you understand what may be happening, explore different ways of responding, and find what feels realistic for you.

You don’t have to be struggling with something “serious” to ask for support. Sometimes having a space to talk things through can be enough to see things differently and find your next step.

A multicultural perspective

Having lived and worked across different cultures, I understand that parenting doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Family expectations, culture, language, relocation and the experience of raising children away from extended family infleunces everyday parenting.

We’re a multicultural, bilingual Dutch-Malaysian-Indian family, and I speak English, Dutch, Malay, Tamil and some Hindi. I know that language, culture and family expectations can all shape the way we experience parenting, both as partners and parents.

Mindfulparents is a welcoming space for both Dutch and international families.
